Gastronomy Day - 3 November

This day deserves its own post I think. We started off on a walk in the nearby forest (more a hike really).

We looked but didn't eat

We had a lunch reservation for 2pm and the only thing we knew was to dress 'smart casual'. We arrived at a 1 star Michelan restaurant called Fonda Xesc in the nearby village of Gombren. The owners are Xesc (chef) and Meritixell, Albert & Diana's teacher from their three years at culinary College.
We were seated at a table with the most stunning view of the mountains.

We agreed on the Menu Degustacio. The photos below show the beautiful food we enjoyed. Those marked with an * indicates a complementary addition to the set menu:

Baby leek in apple*
Fig with green pepper (1 each)*
"rovello" (local mushroom) with lemon cream*
Fennel soup with mussels & ginger
Rice with "tudo" (pigeon), saffron sauce & "camagrocs" (mushrooms)*
Consomme of "cep" (mushrooms) with prawns, ginger and
kombu seaweed

Cabbage, pumpkin, fresh bacon and caviar

Snapper, chard & white butter
Lamb with aubergine, honey & sesame

Local Cheese selection*

Mountain apple, raspberry, lemon & "Ma Lluisa" (lemon balm)
Chocolate with cava, berries & smoked tea

With Meritixell

After coffee, we were joined by Meritixell & Xesc who kindly shared French champagne with us and some 24 yr old Armagnac for Peter.

Peter & I agree that this has been one of the best days we've had, walking through the Pre Pyrenees forest, followed by probably the best restaurant experience ever ever.

  1. Did you see the Romanesque doorway in Ripoll. It is amazing.

  2. I am looking forward to you emulating that food when you get back. Views will be different, but we promise to say nice things. It looks amazing
